Stil Leben, the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, became the heart of a long-term editorial collaboration: over many years, Alexis Zurflüh from ÉTÉ STUDIO led the art direction—together with Nansen & Piccard as editorial agency —including special editions in 中国 and العربية.

Over the years, more than 100 photographers and illustrators were involved—each artwork was developed closely, from first idea to final detail.

Willem Dafoe, Jorja Smith, Marina Abramović, Mark Ronson—just a few of the many cultural figures who shaped the pages of SZ Magazin during our long-standing collaboration.

Even the typeface was slightly adapted—from a classic text weight to an elegant display version, offering more presence for each opener.

Lost in translation—working with Hanzi presented a real challenge, since reading the characters wasn’t easy at first. And then, of course, there was the task of laying it all out. Alexis Zurflüh even started learning some Chinese, and thanks to close teamwork with many local partners, we successfully designed the Chinese edition of SZ Magazin. 感谢所有参与的人.
